In a series of memos and discussions with subscribers to UL services, the aboveground storage tank industry has been advised of the following proposals: A) That UL Standard 2085 (newest edition) will cover ONLY Protected Tanks. Previously, UL 2085 included both Fire-Resistant and Protected Tanks.
A new Listed Storage Tank Directory has been issued with an effective date of August 11, 1997. This represents a tremendous tool for owner/operators, fire authorities, US EPA and aboveground/underground storage tank manufacturers. Copies of this Directory can be ordered by calling (408) 985-2400, extension 32385 (UL-Santa Clara Publications Dept) for $7.50 plus shipping/handling.In addition, UL is now available on the Internet at the following address: http://www.ul.com which offers directories, news and information, access to UL Standards, tradeshows where UL will be present and other information of interest to the aforementioned parties. UL Standard 2085 has been formally submitted to ANSI (American National Standards Institute) as the recognized standard for Protected Tanks. The significance of this development is that any international code and/or standards authority which contacts the USA requesting information on what method of testing/evaluation/listing is provided for Protected aboveground storage tanks will be advised that UL Standard 2085 (second edition) is the controlling document and reference point upon ANSI approval. |
