Jon Heintz of Syljon Industrial Associates, located in Hendersonville,
TN, forwarded the photograph featured below as evidence of the tremendous
damage created by two different tornadoes from a storm system which
struck the Nashville, Tennessee, downtown area and surrounding vicinities
on April 16, 1998. The tornadoes created severe structural damage in
the downtown area, including a major setback to the stadium being prepared
for the Tennessee Oilers NFL franchise, but no lives were initially
lost.
Subsequent tornado damage in the surrounding vicinities eventually killed
twelve people, as well as starting several small fires and shutting
down all power for hours.
As
indicated by Mr. Heintz, in the foreground of the photo you can clearly
see several large delivery trucks which were tossed onto their sides
like toys. The ConVault AST at the Nations Bank complex remained in
service to provide fuel for its standby generator power plant, guaranteeing
the ability of such computerized programs as ATM and credit card use.
As pointed out by Mr. Heintz, if the banking system goes down, it has
a valuable revenue tool which is idle. There was virtually no damage
to the ConVault AST although windows and the brick facing were blown
out by the force of the tornado as it moved by the bank building. Additional
photos are available upon request by contacting ConVault, Inc.
