Tom Lindquist, PresidentIn 1987, when ConVault sold the first protected AST systems with a twenty-year warranty, the industry standard was 1 to 5 years. The new ConVault warranty relied upon quality. As the protected ASTs became the industry standard, warranties were increased to match ConVault's warranty, which had been increased in many instances to a thirty-year warranty. However, a warranty is only as good as the company that backs it. With that in mind, it is interesting to note all the changes that are taking place in our industry today. Many companies that began manufacturing aboveground fuel storage tanks (ASTs) in the last ten years are drastically cutting back or closing up completely. ConVault however, is continuing to expand, as you no doubt noticed from the front page. I have observed that superior products such as ConVault survive (and sometimes thrive) during the hard times because their sales are built on providing a better product at a reasonable price instead of a mediocre product for the cheapest price. At ConVault, excellence in quality has always been our goal, both in design and production. The benefits of the monolithic external concrete design are becoming more apparent, as regulatory officials and customers realize the inherent physical protection afforded to the secondary containment. The design and manufacturing methods are constantly analyzed and improved by the ConVault technical committee. And, the “In Search of Excellence” Quality Assurance Program has been well received, producing an even higher quality product. I am excited about this upcoming year with its changes and challenges. With such an excellent team around the world manufacturing and selling an excellent product to satisfied customers, it is hard to be otherwise.
